St Agnes’ Parish Secondary School bands entertained lunchtime crowds at The Glasshouse in Port Macquarie

LUNCHTIME crowds in Port Macquarie stopped to listen to school bands on The Glasshouse steps on Friday 26 June.

St Agnes’ Parish Secondary Schools (SAPSS) showcased a number of bands and ensembles, playing some familiar toe-tapping tunes as well as some more contemporary and improvised pieces.

Robert Denham, SAPSS music ensembles manager, welcomed the midday crowd and thanked them for supporting students and staff.

The jazz ensemble was a crowd favourite, with music teacher Zachary Horne encouraging the crowd to applaud each of the jazz soloists, who were improvising.

“It was a great opportunity for both St Joseph’s Regional College and MacKillop College to combine and make music together,” music teacher Josh Salter.

“We love sharing what we do in our co-curricular music programs with the wider community, and it is a great opportunity for students to hone their performance skills.”

This is the second in the series of free lunchtime concerts by SAPSS student musicians.

There will be further opportunities throughout the year for the local community to see students performing both onsite at MacKillop and St Joseph’s Regional Colleges, as well as some more lunchtime concerts at The Glasshouse.
