DEAR News of the Area,
I WRITE with disgust to highlight the absolute injustice of the recent Port Macquarie-Hastings Council decision to replace the Dunbogan Bushcare group.
If Mayor Roberts and Councillors Hornshaw, Kirkman and Maltman can’t show their respect and appreciation for this dedicated bunch of volunteers, or even have the grace to acknowledge them, then I, for one, certainly will.
As a long-term resident, I can clearly picture the scenes of walking down the breakwall with a sea of bitou overgrowing the native vegetation and exotic vines reaching into the canopy of trees along the road to the Pilot Station and the road to Trevor’s Corner.
I remember the narrow squeeze between the bitou and lantana to access the swimming hole at Gogley’s Lagoon before the group and council built a proper path.
All this work and much more was done quietly and thoroughly over the years since 1999 and truly transformed the area.
It’s no wonder that the group has been recognised in Parliament.
Shame on you, Mr Mayor and your followers for your unwarranted and unjust treatment of this hardworking volunteer group.
Regards,
Phil Proudfoot,
Dunbogan.
