TWO long-serving Probus members were awarded Life Membership at a recent celebration of Port City Combined Probus Club.

At its April meeting, the club marked both the 50th anniversary of Probus in Australia and its own 28th birthday.

Assistant Treasurer Robert Guyer told News Of The Area that during the meeting, the club awarded life memberships to Carla Little and Tony Robinson.

Both recipients have made significant contributions over many years, including taking on a range of leadership roles.

Carla has been a member since November 2009 and has served in positions including President, Vice President, Social Organiser and Secretary.

“Carla has not only been an active Committee member but also an active and enthusiastic contributor at all Club functions,” he said.

Tony Robinson joined the club in April 2003 and has also served extensively, including as President.

“He took over the task of steering the club forward during an awkward time in [its] history,” Mr Guyer said.

The April meeting was a celebration of both history and community.

Assistant Treasurer Robert Guyer said the recognition of Life Members reflected the strength of the club and its focus on connection and wellbeing.

“Probus provides strong social connections that… improve mental health and wellbeing as people age.”

Originally formed for professional and business retirees, the organisation now welcomes anyone who is retired or semi-retired.

With more than 90,000 members across 1,300 clubs nationwide, Probus brings members together to recognise service, commitment and community spirit.
