DEDICATED volunteers transform a major sporting event into a community celebration and this year, the Wauchope Physical Culture Club has been recognised for doing just that.
At the Ironman Australia Volunteer Presentation on Monday 5 May, members of the club were chosen from among 1400 volunteers to receive the prestigious Stuart Ward Community Award.
Like many local volunteers, they braved the elements on Sunday to support athletes and organisers at this year’s Ironman in Port Macquarie.
Their tireless energy, teamwork, and enthusiasm helped keep spirits high, earning them praise from both participants and event staff.
“[It was] such a fun day volunteering at the Ironman with Wauchope Physical Culture Club,” said volunteer and club member Holly Richardson.
“Love the community spirit that shined.”
Club representative Lydene Heslop said, “this [award] is for our dedication, commitment, hard work and never-give-up attitude.
“We are so proud of this award.
“Thank you to each and everyone of our members who gave up their whole Sunday, especially those that return every year.”
The award celebrates outstanding commitment, resilience, and spirit, qualities that Wauchope Physical Culture Club individual members have brought to the event for the past three years.
