Support Save the Waves with a gold-coin donation

PORT Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club, in association with the Port Macquarie Surfing Museum, is bringing the Save the Waves film festival to town on Sunday, 21 June.

The festival will be held at Flynn’s Beach from 3pm to 6pm. Entry is via a gold-coin donation.

A fund-raising raffle will be held on the afternoon of the festival with a Pieter Shaped twin-fin surfboard up for grabs.

The festival is part of a global tour by Save The Waves Coalition and is geared to bring communities together for a night of adventurous and inspiring films for a good cause.

Organisers say that the Save the Waves Film Festival (STWFF) is the world’s only international surf and environmental film fest.

This year’s lineup of short films features surf breaks from California, Ghana, Portugal, the Azores, Canary Islands, Indonesia, Australia, Peru and Mexico.

The festival is also a showcase for surf ecosystems conservation, with new films about those who are the frontlines of coastal protection.

Tickets and proceeds benefit surf ecosystems worldwide through Save the Waves environmental programs.

“Last year, STWFF screened in 12 countries with 50 community-led events,” said Lauren Parrino, the festival’s director of communications.

“We’re expecting additional stops and even more locations this year.”

The Port Macquarie Surfing Museum has just upgraded its website to include a Save the Waves brochure containing a QR code that can be scanned to make a booking.

Interested people can also call into the museum on the first floor of Port Central, where volunteer staff will help.
