SAWTELL/Toormina Saints women are the queens of the AFL North Coast after triumphing in their grand final against the Port Macquarie Magpies.
The Saints won this year’s premiership with a commanding 8.9 (57) to 2.0 (12) victory against the Magpies, in their grand final at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.
The Saints got out to a 13-0 lead at quarter time, and never looked back, extending the lead to 36-0 at half-time.
The premiership win capped off a stellar season for the Saints, in which they lost only once.
Saints coach Marc Bowd explained why his side were so dominant in 2026.
“The girls were pretty committed to training, and we’ve got a good young core coming through that have played juniors, and I think that’s the big difference, as these young girls coming through are changing the face of North Coast women’s football as they’ve played from six years old,” he said.
“Our Saints women play as a team, and that’s their biggest attribute in that they trust each other, and they don’t really rely on two or three champions, they rely on the 16 players.
“Just our teamwork today, we were really united, and they play for each other.”
The proud coach was confident about repeating the success next year.
“We’ll get another one next year, that’s a guarantee,” he said.
