THE Mid North Coast enjoyed another excellent week of fishing, with a welcome run of settled weather finally giving anglers consistent opportunities to get out on the water.
There have been plenty of impressive catches reported across the region, with several spots producing fish well worth talking about.
Rock fishing was undoubtedly the standout this week, and the forecast suggests another favourable weekend ahead.
Cooler conditions appear to have sparked a strong increase in drummer activity, with anglers reporting excellent numbers from ledges between South West Rocks and Seal Rocks.
Popular local locations including South West Rocks Gaol, Queens Head and Tacking Point Lighthouse continued to fish well in both calm and rough conditions.
Anglers at Crowdy Head also enjoyed success, landing solid numbers of bream and luderick, while the occasional tuna provided an unexpected bonus.
Local rivers remain full of bream, which have been responding well to both bait and lures throughout the Camden Haven and Hastings River systems.
Flathead fishing continues to be outstanding, with anglers finding success using everything from live bait to a wide range of artificial lures.
During last week’s new moon period, several mulloway measuring over a metre were landed in the Camden Haven, with some anglers celebrating personal-best captures.
Luderick fishing has also improved noticeably, with catches from local river breakwalls steadily increasing after a slow start to the season.
Beach anglers enjoyed consistent action this week, with bream and tailor featuring prominently at Lighthouse Beach and North Shore Beach.
Reports also emerged of larger mulloway being caught from beaches around Lake Cathie and North Haven, along with the usual numbers of school-sized fish.
Offshore fishing is continuing to improve as calmer seas and more regular westerly winds create better conditions.
Snapper fishing has been particularly productive off Port Macquarie and Lake Cathie, with soft plastics currently producing the best results.
Anglers fishing the deeper reefs off Crescent Head and Point Plomer are also finding opportunities for pearl perch and kingfish as offshore activity continues to build.
