PORT Macquarie Hastings Council has commenced works on the Westport Link Pathway, aimed at enhancing community access and improving connectivity along the Kooloonbung Creek foreshore.
The project will upgrade the pedestrian pathway linking the base of the Buller Street/Hollingworth Street footbridge with the end of the Comfort Resort Waters Edge precinct.
“Once complete, the upgraded pathway will feature improved pavement surfaces, new lighting, seating, landscaping and grassed areas designed to enhance safety and amenity along the waterfront,” Mayor Adam Roberts said.
“A new jetty and canoe ramp will also be constructed to improve recreational access to the waters of Kooloonbung Creek and Hastings River foreshore.”
The project is jointly funded by the NSW Government through the Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program and Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
Work will occur weekdays between 7am and 6pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.
Weather permitting, the project will be complete by July.
During the works, the community may experience temporary pedestrian and car park access disruptions at the Hollingworth Street car park.
Pedestrian and vehicle detours will be clearly signposted, and the community is encouraged to follow onsite safety signage while work is underway.
The Westport Link Pathway upgrade forms part of Council’s broader efforts to improve access to the Port Macquarie foreshore and provide high-quality recreational infrastructure for the community.
Once complete, the project will deliver improved pedestrian connectivity; safer public spaces through upgraded lighting and pathway surfaces; new opportunities for water-based recreation including canoe access; enhanced landscaping and public seating areas; and improved accessibility and usability of the foreshore.
