LETTER: Solar solutions are a good news story

DEAR News Of The Area,

IT is such a good news story, having rooftop solar with a battery and now owning an electric car.

Not everyone can afford it but my wife and I are two of the lucky ones.

I think the number of home battery installations is now over 480,000.

The Federal government picked a great time to help home owners to buy in.

Since picking up our new EV on the day the US-Iran war started affecting petrol prices we’ve barely spent any money on fuelling it.

Replacing a 15-year-old battered Subaru with a small EV has been a game-changer.

Living 45 minutes from Port in the “sticks”, as it has been described, most of our driving is spent going to town.

Charging at home is at no cost.

The initial outlay was considerable, nearly $50,000 for solar array, battery and Zappy charger, but even at our age we will get that back before long.

The EV is a pleasure to drive with great acceleration.

A few trips to Sydney, Lake Macquarie and the Gold Coast have tested us in planning recharge stops.

The wait is always manageable with a bit of forethought.

After a route has been done once it’s much easier the next time. It takes you back to being 17 and planning your first adventures in your freedom machine.

The Labor government is winning on this one and it will improve all our lives for the better.

Now the Federal government is assisting with covering industrial rooftops with solar arrays, not to mention the three hours of free electricity for households.

I’m just so impressed.

Regards,

Neil Jones,

Marlo Merrican.
