Fisherman drowns at Lord Howe Island

A FISHERMAN has died after being pulled from the ocean at Lord Howe Island.

About 5pm on Wednesday 4 March, emergency services attended Clear Place Point following reports a body had been seen in the water.

At the scene, officers located the body of a fisherman in the water near a rock platform where fishing equipment was located.

The body was retrieved by police and NSW SES, before being taken to Gower Wilson Memorial Hospital.

The 51-year-old man was unable to be revived.

Inquiries into the incident are underway by police attached to Mid North Coast Police District.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
