THE public will have a rare opportunity to step inside the world of aviation when the Hastings District Flying Club (HDFC) Aviation Expo opens the hangars at Port Macquarie Airport to visitors on Sunday 26 April.

Hosted in partnership with the Australian International Aviation College (AIAC), the free Aviation Expo will run from 9am to 2pm.

Visitors will be able to walk among aircraft, meet pilots, explore aviation displays and learn about flying training pathways, while gaining a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations.

HDFC president Rod Davison said the event is about sharing aviation with the wider community.

“The Hastings District Flying Club has been part of Port Macquarie’s aviation story for 68 years,” he said.

“Opening the hangars allows the community to come in, meet the pilots and see the aircraft up close.

“For many young visitors, it may be their first experience sitting inside a cockpit, and that moment can spark a lifelong interest in aviation.”

The event also highlights opportunities for those considering aviation careers.

AIAC CEO Todd Liu said the Aviation Expo helps people realise that a career in aviation can begin locally.

“Many people think becoming a pilot is out of reach, but every pilot begins with curiosity and a first step.

“Events like the HDFC Aviation Expo allow people to explore aviation up close, ask questions and discover how training pathways can lead to professional flying careers.”
