Donation speeds up lifesaving response at Camden Haven SLSC

A $4500 DONATION from the Rotary Clubs of Laurieton and Port Macquarie West has allowed new roller doors to be installed at Camden Haven Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC), improving emergency response times.

The Camden Haven SLSC has been serving the local community since 1956, with a record of zero drownings between the flags.

Keeping North Haven Beach safe for everyone requires a team of dedicated volunteers, along with large amounts of specialist rescue equipment which is stored in the club building.

Coastal weather has taken its toll on the roller doors to the storage area in recent times, with extensive rust leading to difficulty in raising the doors.

Camden Haven SLSC President Kate Dwyer told News Of The Area the club is “extremely grateful” for the donation.

“The old doors were very slow to open, and seconds count in a surf rescue,” she said.

“Thanks to the Rotary Clubs we can now ensure our team gets out as fast as possible.”

Port Macquarie West Rotary Club President Brendan Seed said the Rotary clubs could see the benefit in the investment.

“It is a pleasure to be able to help an organisation that does so much to keep the community safe,” he said.

“It has been great to join with another Rotary Club to fund this.”

The Rotary Club of Laurieton has been able to have a significant impact in the local community through their twice-a-year book sale, grants from Rotary International, and the recycling of bottles and cans.

Their next major fundraiser is the Winter book sale running 4-12 July, with donations accepted at any time.
