Rotary’s free 10-minute men’s life-saving health check comes to Port Macquarie

A ROTARY Club-sponsored van providing free health checks for men rolls into Port Macquarie next week.

Hosted annually by the Port Macquarie Sunrise and Port Macquarie West clubs, the men’s health initiative offers simple but potentially life-saving screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol checks to help identify people at risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Now in its ninth year, the MHERV Project continues to target rural and regional communities, where access to preventative health checks is particularly important – and sometimes difficult to access.

“Too often, people are unaware they are at serious risk until it is too late,” a Rotary spokesperson said.

“Early detection can make all the difference, helping save lives and improve long-term health outcomes.

“While there’s a particular focus on encouraging men not to put their health checks on the back burner, everyone is welcome.”

The van will be at Bunnings on Friday, 13 November and Saturday, 14 November from 9:15 am to 4:15 pm daily.

Screenings are conducted by a registered nurse in a relaxed, informal and confidential environment. Participants can discuss any health concerns privately in the van.

Since its inception, MHERV screenings have helped save more than 8700 lives by identifying people requiring treatment or potentially life-saving medical attention.

The health check is free – no booking is required.

“Just 10 minutes could save your life, or the life of someone you love.”
