Award recognises Council’s commitment to veteran employment

FORMER members of Australia’s defence forces bring an incredible range of skills, experience and qualities to the workforce – qualities recognised by Port Macquarie Hastings Council.

The council has received national recognition for its commitment to supporting veterans into meaningful employment, taking out the Best Regional Veteran Employment Initiative award at the 2026 Prime Minister’s National Veteran Employment Awards.

The award recognises the positive impact of the council’s Veterans Employment Program, which supports former ADF personnel to transition into civilian careers.

“We recognise the value they can bring to our organisation and our community,” said the council’s General Manager Robert Fish.

“We recognise the importance of providing opportunities to support veterans in taking that next step in their careers.

“This award acknowledges the work being undertaken by our organisation to create those opportunities and ensure veterans feel welcomed, supported and valued.”

Developed in collaboration with the NSW Office of Veterans Affairs, the council’s Veterans Employment Program reflects its veteran-inclusive recruitment. For more on the program visit: https://www.pmhc.nsw.gov.au/Your-Council/About-us/Jobs/Veterans-Employment-Program
