Community choirs were part of the entertainment at Port Macquarie’s ArtWalk

ARTWALK started with a blast of sound in a flash sing from local choirs.

More than 100 singers from a range of local choirs came together for the first time at 4pm for a quick rehearsal.

At 5pm a crowd of family and friends and many more gathered in the carpark of Clarence House to hear them sing.

Local choirs formed the Big Sing with the following joining in – Blokes Notes, Hastings Choristers, KWYRE, Mosaic from Wauchope, Song Circle, Sing Australia Choirs from both Port Macquarie and Wauchope, St Columba Anglican School Youth Choir, and the newly formed Rock and Soul Choir.

The acoustics were impressively good and those who were there were treated to a lovely rendition of ‘Here Comes the Sun’.

Leanne Johnson, who co-ordinated the choir, thanked the audience.

“We’ll send you off now to enjoy the rest of the night with this little ditty: ‘Am I ever gonna see your face again?’,” Ms Johnson said.

Ms Johnson is the music director for both Blokes Notes and KWYRE.

Blokes Notes performed separately and attracted a large crowd on the corner of Clarence and Murray Streets at 5.30pm.

They are a community choir for men and are a crowd favourite, providing acapella music and humour.

Blokes Notes are a not- for-profit organisation which raises funds for Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services, in support of the Port Macquarie and Hastings regions.

They will be singing with the Sydney Male Choir in ‘Travellin’ North with a Song’ at the Players Theatre on Friday 19 June.
