LOCAL musician Robyn Ryan OAM is preparing a performance of “The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace” at St Agnes’ Catholic Church in Port Macquarie in August.

August is International Peace Month.

“The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” premiered in 2000 and was the result of a commission from the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, England, to commemorate the millennium.

Originally dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War, its theme of hope in the face of war is a moving one in any age.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in a weekend of joyous choral singing in Port Macquarie,” said Robyn.

“We just need singers now – sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.”

Heather Moen-Boyd, a renowned organist from Sydney, will accompany the choir on the digital pipe organ in St Agnes’ Church.

She is an experienced recitalist on the pipe organ, and is organist and choir director at Scots Presbyterian Church in Mosman.

Funds from the concert will support the homeless and needy in the community through the St Agnes’ Foundation.

Workshops will be held Saturday 8 August 9.30am-4.30pm.

The final rehearsal will be the following day Sunday 9 August 10am-12.30pm followed by a public concert at 2pm.

Singers can register by email to robmusic44@gmail.com with “Armed Man” in the subject line.
