A TRUE dream team comes to Port Macquarie this October.
Composer Elena Kats-Chernin AO and ARIA Award-winning pianist Tamara-Anna Cislowska bring Ancient Letters to the Glasshouse Theatre on Thursday 22 October, the only theatre date on their four-concert regional tour.
Two people, one piano, four hands – all of it Elena’s music.
You will know some of it already: Eliza Aria, the piece Lloyds TSB took around the world; Russian Rag from Mary and Max; and the score for the Oscar-nominated Memoir of a Snail.
Tamara gave her first public performance at the age of two, playing Bartók. She has since won an ARIA Award for Best Classical Album, recorded 11 number one albums, draws four million streams a year on Spotify and presents Duet on ABC Classic.
They never play it the same way twice.
An orchestral score can run to 80 pages, but on their stand sit just a few sheets of sketches. They rebuild the piece live from those, meaning the version Port Macquarie hears will exist only on that night.
The concert is presented by Music in the Regions, a not-for-profit organisation that has arranged more than 100 regional concerts.
The Glasshouse bar opens at 6pm, ahead of the performance at 7pm.
The tour also visits Bellingen, Taree and Maitland.
