Wauchope supermarket celebrates superstar employee

A FAMILIAR face to many in the Wauchope community, Luke Mackay is celebrating 28 years with Ritchies IGA.

Always offering a friendly smile to customers in Wauchope, Luke is known for his warm personality, sharp knowledge of sport and current affairs, and his unwavering reliability.

Whether he is starting his shift early or setting the pace on his morning power walk along Cameron Street, Luke brings enthusiasm and consistency to everything he does.

A sporting enthusiast through and through, Luke does not do things by halves.

He is a dedicated golfer who can be found on the course two to three times a week, and a committed morning power-walker who sets a pace that few can match.

Luke is also a loyal supporter of the Canberra Raiders and a walking encyclopedia of sport, music and current affairs.

Luke also has a deep appreciation for 80s music and brings that upbeat spirit into the workplace every day.

Before joining Ritchies IGA, he was a well-known and respected team member at Hastings Co-op Timbertown IGA, further strengthening his ties across the region.

Family plays a central role in Luke’s life.

He is a proud uncle to Franklin, Oscar and Olive, the eldest son of Robyn and Ken, and a reliable brother and brother-in-law to the entire family.

He shares a particularly special bond with his 99-year-old Pop, regularly keeping him sharp with detailed AFL highlight discussions.

“Every family – and every workplace – needs a ‘Luke’,” said Ritchies Timbertown IGA Manager James.

“Luke is someone who keeps everyone updated on the world, knows the stats of the weekend games, and is always early for every work shift.”

Any man who can keep up with a 99-year-old’s AFL passion, maintain a competitive golf score, and still set the pace on Cameron Street is clearly doing something right.
