WAUCHOPE Patchwork Quilters are using their love of quilting to support people close to home and further afield.
With more than 70 members, the group provides a place for local quilters to come together each week to practice their craft, exchange ideas and enjoy the social connections that come with their shared interest.
Wauchope Patchwork Quilters president Kathy Torley said members met on Tuesday nights and Thursday mornings to ‘quilt, talk and socialise’.
“We make and donate quilts for palliative care and aged care, as well as crib quilts for new mothers and babies in regional areas of NSW and Queensland,” Ms Torley said.
Their handiwork has also travelled internationally, with quilts made for an orphanage in Bali.
Closer to home, Wauchope Patchwork Quilters regularly support the Hastings Cancer Trust by providing several quilts to assist its fundraising each year.
The group will soon have an opportunity to share its creativity with the wider community through its Spring into Patchwork Quilt Show.
It will be held at Bethel Church, 230a High Street, Wauchope, on Friday 30 October and Saturday 31 October, from 9.30am to 4pm each day. The show will feature quilts, crafts, stalls and the group’s community projects, plus a $2 raffle.
“The event showcases our work,” Ms Torley said.
“As always, we’ll have a quilt raffle, with proceeds going to the ADRA Wauchope Soup Van.”
