Riders and volunteers recognised at Wauchope Port Macquarie RDA Christmas event

WAUCHOPE Port Macquarie Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) wrapped up the year with a Christmas party at the Wauchope RSL Club on Tuesday 9 December.

Clients, volunteers and supporters came together to mark the end of a busy year.

The RSL Club provided lunch, drawing participants away from games, dancing and activities to share a meal.

Santa also made a visit, adding to the celebrations as riders and volunteers enjoyed the festive break.

The event also recognised the contribution of volunteers and the progress made by riders throughout the year.

Coaches noted improvements in riding skills, confidence and social interaction across the program.

Gary Hanna received the Waldron Family Memorial Trophy for Most Improved Rider of the Year, with coaches acknowledging the strong improvement shown by many riders.

Volunteers voted “Bluey” as Horse of the Year after a close count against “Bari”.

Retiring executive members Cathy Wagstaffe and Jenny Caller joined Gary Hanna to cut the Christmas cake, recognising their service to the association.

RDA President Kerry Argent thanked the community for its strong support of the organisation’s Christmas raffle.

“A huge thank you to all those who bought raffle tickets as [it] raised over $2000.

“All prizewinners have been notified and you can see the winners’ names on the billboards at the point of sale,” Ms Argent said.

She told News Of The Area that continued generosity from supporters will further benefit the organisation.

“Jaci has kindly re-donated the prize to be sold to raise even more money for the organisation.

“A huge thank you to the sponsors – Anaconda, Rydges, Cheyne Flanagan (artist), Ocean Star Port Macquarie, Cathy Wagstaffe, Tacking Point Tavern Bottle Shop, John Wagstaffe, Robyn Martin, Lake Cathie Bowling Club, Hogs Breath Cafe, and Port Venture Sunset Cruise,” she said.

Wauchope Port Macquarie RDA confirmed it is seeking new clients for Tuesday sessions next year.
