PORT Macquarie Maroro Outrigger Canoe Club travelled to Coffs Harbour for the National Marathon Championships. The regatta ran from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th May.
We’re happy to report our strong participation and good results.
All our races were short course (10 kms).
Maybe next year we’ll have some entries in the long course which is 18km.
Nic and Paul competed on Friday in the OC2.
They unfortunately huli’d i.e. capsized and they did not finish.
Conditions were not easy because of a high swell.
On Saturday we had 2 Mixed OC6 (6 people canoe) teams.
The results there were the following.
Golden Masters (older than 60) came 8th out of 10.
And Masters (older than 40) came 4th out of 7.
Sunday we had two teams.
The men came 4th out of 5.
They were only 12 seconds behind 3rd.
However the women did better – 2nd!
This is in their division.
They came 2nd out of 6.
A podium finish! At the Nationals!
We were very excited. Spoiler: I was not in that boat. But over the moon nevertheless.
The weather wasn’t as bad as was forecast. Thank you weather gods.
We did get thoroughly rained on and so completely wet on Saturday. But not cold because of 23 degree temperatures and high humidity. The rain held off on Sunday. Coffs Harbour club were very organised. Thank you to our committee and coaches and car pooling. We look forward to continuing to get out onto the water over the winter.
Our club, Port Macquarie Maroro Ourtrigger Canoe Club, is always on the look out for new members.
The Come and Try arrangement means you can have a go with us in social paddling on Sundays.
If you’re interested please come and find us at the Marina in Port Macquarie.
For Come-and-try, be there on a Sunday at 7.40am.
Dress code is to be prepared to get wet.
