A MAN has been charged over an alleged armed carjacking in Port Macquarie.
About 4.20pm on Friday 9 January, police were called to Garden Crescent, where they were told a 25-year-old woman sitting in the driver’s seat of a sedan had been approached by an unknown man.
He allegedly opened the car door, threatened the woman with a knife and stole the car.
The woman was uninjured and ran from the scene.
About 6.25am on Saturday 10 January, police found the car on Hollingworth Street. It was seized for forensic examination.
On Sunday, at 1am, officers on patrol stopped and searched a 34-year-old man, allegedly finding keys to the stolen car and clothes linked to the offence.
The man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with “robbery armed with offensive weapon” and “dispose motor vehicle part-theft serious indictable offence greater than $5000”.
He has been refused bail and will appear before Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday 19 February.
