Local support spurs Kye Taylor to first Port Macquarie Ironman finish

KYE Taylor had plenty of local support as he powered to the finish line in his first Port Macquarie Ironman on Sunday, 4 May.

Branded “Team Taylor”, his support crew of family and friends were out in force by mid-Sunday morning, proudly displaying home made t-shirts and signs.

“Kye is a 30-year-old local, who works for [Port Macquarie] Hastings Council and is about to be a first time dad,” said Kye’s sister in law, Hannah Williams.

With about 16 kilometres to go of the run leg, Kye’s wife Isobelle reported that he was “hurting a bit, but still smashing it.”

Kye finished at around 7:30pm with a time of 9:41:14.

“I am really happy with my result, though I was more messed up than you could think,” Kye said.

“Big thanks to my coach, Alex Gillman.

“I couldn’t have done it without him.”

Like many other support crews dotted around the course, Team Taylor was generous and loud with their support of every competitor who passed them on the corner of Mrs York’s Garden and Clarence Street.
