AROUND 100 pieces of artwork found new homes during the inaugural Tacking Point Lions Club Second Chance Art Sale, raising more than $2000 for local charity Make A Difference (MAD).
The event brought together several local organisations, with donated artworks sold to raise funds for MAD’s work providing emergency assistance to people in need across Port Macquarie.
“The funds will help Make A Difference provide emergency assistance to those in need in Port Macquarie,” Tacking Point Lions Club spokesperson Janice McGilchrist said.
“We’ve developed a relationship with MAD and will continue to support its work wherever possible.”
Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts opened the inaugural event and acknowledged the contribution volunteers make to local community organisations.
“I get around to a lot of community events,” Mr Roberts said.
“It’s the same people wearing multiple hats across so many different organisations and groups.
“It makes you realise that a small number of people keep a community together.”
Mayor Roberts also thanked those who donated artworks to make it possible to raise funds for organisations such as MAD.
The strong response has encouraged the Lions Club to consider another art sale.
“Given the enthusiasm of those who donated and the people who purchased, this is likely to be an annual event,” Ms McGilchrist said.
The club thanked the Country Women’s Association for the use of its rooms and Hastings Valley Fine Art Association for providing wire display stands. Officeworks printed the posters and flyers designed by Katie Honeybrook.
