SEVEN skippers worked their way through the Ironman 70.3 road closures to reach Port Macquarie Sailing Club only to find that the forecast of nil to very little wind was accurate.
After waiting for a few hours and watching little patches of breeze come through with light showers, only to continue moving on with the showers, everyone lost enthusiasm and left.
Of course, once everyone had gone, the weather cleared a little and a light breeze did come through – but too little, too late.
Two boats did get to race; they sailed their Arrow Cats at the Phil Johnston Memorial 14’ catamaran regatta at Mannering Park Amateur Sailing Club at the southern end of Lake Macquarie.
Frank O’Rourke on ‘Zero’ was the first Arrow Cat in the point score and was eighth overall, while Tony Kuhn on ‘Stella’ was the third Arrow Cat to make him 15th overall.
The regatta was won by Brad Sumner on his Hobie 14 Turbo ‘The Hardest Line’.
This weekend marks the first round of sprint races, with the first race starting at 11.30, followed by one or more back-to-back races, a lunch break, then two or three more races.
Rob Barwick is rostered on duty.
