A MILESTONE in one employee’s career is shining a spotlight on the dedication and compassion that underpin aged care, as Regis Port Macquarie celebrates Aged Care Employee Day on 7 August.
Daniel Parry is marking 15 years at the Sherwood Road residential aged care home, where he has become a familiar and valued face for both residents and colleagues.
Daniel joined Regis after a friend recommended the role and said he felt welcomed by the team from the very beginning.
Today, he works as a Food Services Assistant, helping prepare, plate and serve meals while maintaining the kitchen. Beyond those daily responsibilities, he takes the time to build genuine relationships with residents, learning about their interests, routines, life experiences and personal goals.
His role helps ensure residents enjoy not only nutritious meals but also meaningful social interaction and personalised care.
Reflecting on his career, Daniel encouraged anyone considering a role in aged care to persevere through the challenges.
“Aged care can be challenging at times, but it’s also very rewarding,” he said.
“The longer you’re here, the more opportunities you have to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
Regis Port Macquarie General Manager Jen Phillips said Daniel’s commitment and positive attitude had made him an important part of the home’s culture over the past decade and a half.
“He is friendly, approachable and always enjoys sharing a laugh with residents and colleagues,” Ms Phillips told News Of The Area.
“His willingness to help, combined with his dedication over the past 15 years, makes him such a likeable and positive person to have as part of our team.”
Aged Care Employee Day recognises the contribution of the hundreds of thousands of people who work across Australia’s aged care sector.
For Daniel, the anniversary represents more than years of service; it reflects countless everyday moments spent making a positive difference in the lives of Port Macquarie residents.
