Wauchope Bowling Club continues annual donation to support stroke patients

WAUCHOPE Bowling Club continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to community care with its annual donation to support stroke patients at Wauchope District Memorial Hospital.

The club presented a $1,000 donation to the hospital’s Rehabilitation Unit, in December 2025, with the funds set to be used for additional comfort items to support patients during their recovery.

The donation raised through the club’s long-running “Wrong Bias” initiative is a light-hearted tradition where bowlers contribute a gold coin whenever a bowl goes astray.

Rick Simpson, President of Wauchope Bowling Club, said the initiative remained a highlight for members.

“It’s a fun tradition that brings people together for a good cause.

“Seeing other clubs take up the idea to support their communities is fantastic and it shows how something simple can have such a big impact,” Mr Simpson said.

The idea has been part of the local bowling scene for around 15 years and has since been adopted by bowling clubs across NSW to support a range of local causes.

Jennifer Rudd, Executive Officer and Director of Nursing at Wauchope District Memorial Hospital, thanked the club for its continued generosity.

“The support from Wauchope Bowling Club makes a real difference for our patients.

“Their commitment over many years helps us deliver quality care and we’re deeply grateful,” Ms Rudd said.

The annual donation reflects the close connection between the bowling club and the broader Wauchope community.

The funds play an important role in enhancing patient comfort and supporting rehabilitation services that rely heavily on community backing.
