Port Dojo remembers Hanshi Kevin Blundell Kaicho

THE martial arts community is mourning the loss of Hanshi Kevin Blundell Kaicho, founder of the Kumiai Ryu Martial Arts System, who passed away peacefully on Monday 11 August.

Hanshi Kevin began his martial arts journey as a young man, pursuing excellence across multiple disciplines and achieving high ranks through years of dedication, discipline and passion.

In 1989, he founded the Kumiai Ryu Martial Arts System, a style that blended traditional martial arts values with practical self-defence skills.

His vision extended far beyond teaching techniques, as he sought to develop strong, respectful and disciplined individuals, instilling life skills that would serve his students both inside and outside the dojo.

Over the decades, Hanshi Kevin became a mentor and role model to thousands of students and instructors worldwide.

Known for his generosity, wisdom and steadfast commitment, he built a global community united by shared values and mutual respect.

His impact was felt not only through his teaching but also through the personal connections he forged, the encouragement he offered and the example he set.

Kumiai Ryu Port Macquarie, paid tribute on its Facebook page, saying:

“Your guidance and mentoring not just in Martial Arts, but also in life, will never be forgotten.

“Your legacy will continue on by the many students, instructors and followers that you have encouraged and inspired over the years.

“You are the reason the Port Macquarie Dojo is what it is today.

“Your spirit will forever be part of the Kumiai Ryu PMQ dojo and the KRMAS family as a whole.”

The principles of Kumiai Ryu will continue to reflect his philosophy and dedication, ensuring that his spirit lives on in every class, every student and every act of discipline and respect.
