MORE than 450 guests watched 13 locals swap their day jobs for the dance floor at Stars of Hastings Dance for Cancer, raising more than $285,000 for Cancer Council NSW.
Held at Panthers Port Macquarie on Friday, 11 September, the event was the culmination of months of rehearsals, fundraising and stepping well outside comfort zones.
The stage came alive with theatrical performances, acrobatics, cheer, hip hop, disco, burlesque and pole, creating a night filled with glamour, laughter and powerful reminders of why the community had come together.
The atmosphere was ‘unforgettable’ and the room ‘electric’, according to Cancer Council NSW spokesperson Lauren Fraser.
Abby Koch transformed into Dolly Parton for a fabulous theatrical tribute alongside Miranda Webster, earning the pair the Judges’ Choice Award. Jacob Fardy and Jorjia-Rose Styles had the crowd on their feet with their high-energy acrobatic routine, taking home the People’s Choice Award.
“Our Stars were brave, entertaining and completely committed, and the audience was behind them from the moment they stepped onto the stage,” Ms Fraser said.
“The trophies were well deserved, but the real win is what this result will mean for people and families affected by cancer.”
Funds raised provide practical and emotional support for people facing cancer today, while also funding research, prevention, early detection and advocacy to improve future outcomes.
Across the Mid North Coast, people affected by cancer can access services including Transport to Treatment, counselling and peer support, help with financial hardship, and referrals for legal, financial and workplace advice. Assistance may also be available with household bills, food, petrol, home help and accommodation when people need to travel for care.
More than 2300 people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer each year on the Mid North Coast.
Cancer Council NSW is 94 per cent community funded, and the 2026 participants continue a legacy that’s raised well over $1.5 million.
