Dear News Of The Area,
IT’S happening! Electricity prices are set to fall. The energy regulator has cut the maximum price retailers can charge from 1 July.
Households in NSW will get a 5 per cent cut to power bills while businesses will gain by up to 21 per cent.
The main reason is the transition to renewable energy, which now accounts for 50 per cent of electricity generation. Wind, solar and batteries are driving down the cost of electricity, and this is being passed on to consumers.
Also from 1 July, the Labor government’s Solar Sharer scheme comes into effect, offering everyone up to three hours of completely free electricity during the middle of the day.
Continued progress depends on Labor staying in power because the Liberals, Nationals and One Nation are all opposed to clean energy.
Coalition policy is to cap it at 52 per cent. In other words, no new wind, solar and batteries, including new household solar, because any more of these would exceed their cap.
Electricity consumers beware!
Regards,
Harry Creamer,
Port Macquarie.
