PORT Macquarie dancer Conor Bann-Murray is turning a childhood passion into an international career, proving that big dreams can start in regional Australia.

Conor grew up in Port Macquarie and moved to Sydney at 16 to pursue professional dance training.

He quickly made his mark, becoming the most successful graduate in his full-time year at Brent Street, one of Australia’s leading performing arts studios.

On the day of his graduation, his career took a significant step forward when he received a call from his agent confirming he had secured a role in the national tour of “Wicked the Musical”.

Since then, Bann-Murray has built an impressive portfolio, performing alongside some of the world’s biggest music artists.

“I want that dance contract, I want the agent,” he said.

His credits include working with Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Meghan Trainor, Tones and I, and Jessica Mauboy, placing him among Australia’s most in-demand commercial dancers.

Despite this success, opportunities within Australia’s commercial dance industry remain limited, with only a small number of large-scale productions and touring roles available each year.

As a result, many dancers look overseas to build sustainable careers and gain consistent work in the global entertainment industry.

For Bann-Murray, the next step is clear.

His ultimate goal is to become a touring professional back-up dancer, performing on international stages and working with leading artists around the world.

He recognises that opportunities to accelerate a career at this level are rare, and approaches each audition with determination and focus.

With strong training, high-profile experience and a clear vision for the future, Bann-Murray continues to position himself for success on the global stage.
