Port Macquarie boxers enjoy successful night in Singleton

PORT Macquarie boxers enjoyed a successful outing in the Hunter on Saturday evening, taking two victories by unanimous decision at the Singleton Civic Centre Fight Night.

Local fighters Jordan Green and Ryan Campbell, from the Port Macquarie Boxing Club, kept to their game plans to secure memorable wins.

With the fight card boasting 20 match-ups from lightweight to heavyweight divisions, Green was the local club’s first fighter of the evening.

Starting the first round calm and methodical, Green suffered an early setback when he was caught with a perfectly-timed shot that had him stumbling.

Club Coach Mick Eggins said the moment triggered a change in Green.

“He wasn’t happy with himself and decided to lift the tempo and apply pressure,” Eggins said.

“He lost the first round, but the look in his eyes told me he was going to be alright.”

And alright he was, with Green starting the second round strong, stalking his opponent, landing heavy blows and cutting the ring off.

“It was a close round, but Jordan got the chocolates,” said Eggins.

“The bell sounded for round three and Jordan came out of the corner like a bull at a gate, landing blows, evading shots and winning his bout by unanimous decision.”

With carloads of Port Macquarie locals ringside, Ryan ‘The Sandman’ Campbell then took to the ring and put on an impressive clinic in boxing.

Campbell boxed beautifully for three straight rounds and was never in doubt of a victory, earning another unanimous decision.

“In amateur boxing, the most underutilised punch is the jab,” said Eggins.

“Ryan however was landing that many left hands, his opponent was begging for a right.”

Campbell faced a hardened former MMA fighter who brought significantly more experience into the bout, but the disparity in fights counted for little once the bell rang.

Next on the club’s calendar is an event in Coolangatta on 7 March.

“2026 is going to be a huge year for our club, especially on 18 April, as we host our own fight night at the Port Macquarie Race Club,” said Eggins.

The “Homecoming” event will be the club’s first boxing fight night on home soil in ten years, with Port Macquarie’s Australian Welterweight Champion Jess Messina taking to the ring.
