FOR the past 50 years, quality early childhood education in Wauchope has been centred around a much-loved local community preschool.
Free kindergartens and preschools have been a mainstay of Australia’s educational landscape since the 1890s when they were established to support impoverished children and single working mothers.
Today, early childhood education is viewed as hugely beneficial to all children and, as such, is subsidised by the NSW Government.
Facilities are often managed by parent committees and operated in alignment with school terms.
The foundations of Wauchope Preschool Kindergarten can be traced back to the early 1970s when local families launched a grassroots campaign aimed at creating infrastructure for dedicated early childhood education.
Australia’s National Quality Standards NQS framework is the benchmark for seven critical quality areas, and Wauchope has consistently achieved Exceeding National Quality Standard, which is awarded to standout institutions.
The milestone 50th anniversary will be celebrated on Saturday, 7 November from 10am-3pm at 1 Tallowood Avenue, Wauchope.
The festivities will include face painting, balloon pop, treasure hunt, raffles, a BBQ, and a variety of food vans.
A highlight will be a specially curated art walk showcasing memorabilia from the past 50 years.
“Providing early learning and care to our community for 50 years is such an achievement for our small, community-based, not-for-profit preschool,” business administrator Virginia Moore Gunton said.
“To celebrate, we’re inviting past and present families, educators and members of our community to join us for a wonderful day of festivities.”
