AUSSIE Battlers is on track to open a food hub in Laurieton by late November, offering relief for those facing poverty this Christmas.
Providing food year-round, the space will be separate from the organisation’s shop.
“The festive season is a time of joy and celebration,” said Karen Sparkes, Aussie Battlers’ founder and president.
“Aussie Battlers wants to ensure those experiencing hardship can enjoy Christmas too.”
Food hampers and gifts will be available, as well as a photo with Santa.
Previously, Kendall Blues Football Club donated bikes and scooters, and the $5 Coffee Club donated helmets to go with them.
The shop offers those in need a range of support, including emergency food parcels, support for those experiencing homelessness, assistance for new mums and older people, and disaster relief during floods or fires.
Support is not restricted to those in need or doing it tough: everyone is welcome, and proceeds go back to the community.
“The shop and volunteers are always there to support anyone needing assistance, regardless of circumstances and without judgement,” Ms Sparkes said.
Aussie Battlers recently held its annual general meeting to reflect on its year and to prepare for the festive season.
During September, it provided home setups for eight organisations in the area and 12 setups for individuals experiencing homelessness, all at no cost.
