COMMUNITY organisations across the Port Macquarie electorate are being encouraged to apply for funding to deliver projects that help prevent gender-based violence, with grants of up to $5,000 now available through the NSW Government’s 2026 16 Days of Activism Grant Program.
The program offers a share of $100,000 for grassroots initiatives that will be delivered during the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, held from 25 November to 10 December.
Member for Port Macquarie Robert Dwyer said the grants would help local organisations create practical programs that promoted respect, equality and safer communities.
“This funding supports practical, community-led initiatives that encourage respectful relationships, promote gender equality and help change the attitudes and behaviours that tolerate or condone violence against women,” Mr Dwyer said.
“Whether through schools, sporting clubs, workplaces or community organisations, these projects help create safer and more respectful communities for everyone.”
Eligible organisations can apply for between $2,500 and $5,000 to deliver activities that raise awareness and address the underlying drivers of domestic, family and sexual violence.
Last year’s program funded 20 initiatives across New South Wales, including community workshops, prevention-focused events and social media campaigns designed to engage young people, boys, men and the broader community.
According to the NSW Government, participating organisations reported stronger community engagement, improved awareness, and positive changes in attitudes towards preventing gender-based violence.
The grants form part of the NSW Government’s $38 million Pathways to Prevention strategy, which supports primary prevention initiatives aimed at creating long-term cultural change.
The program also complements the Government’s recent $184.1 million investment in domestic and family violence services, including a 50 per cent increase in funding for six core frontline programs.
Local Domestic and Family Violence Committees and Networks are encouraged to partner with councils, schools and community groups to deliver projects promoting safety, respect and gender equality.
