AROUND Australia, Landcare week will be observed from 3 August to 9 August, and Hastings Landcare Group has an array of activities and events planned across the Port Macquarie Hastings region.
Hastings Landcare Group volunteers amassed an impressive total of 6149 volunteer hours in the last financial year.
“The work our dedicated volunteers do is so beneficial to our local environment and our community,” said project officer Robyn Camozzato.
“Volunteers turn up – week in and week out – and that impact is evident in the bushland sites we work, and in the sheer number of hours volunteers have worked this year.”
The organisation has scheduled a packed week of events across the region including a Ngarraliyn (deep listening) session, at Comboyne; a property visit, at Beechwood; a walk and talk along Kooloonbung Creek, in Port Macquarie; a discovery walk, at Sancrox Reserve; bush breathing, in Henry Kendall Reserve; and a planting day at Queens Lake, Lakewood.
Education will be provided around topics including the effectiveness of weeding and how to take time to listen to Country.
Landcare aims to connect people through practical environmental action, improving biodiversity, building resilience, and enhancing community wellbeing.
“Our community events are open to all, both for on-ground action and for community wellbeing,” said Hastings Landcare president Lyndon Harris.
“Events include community planting days, educational workshops, nature journalling, meditations (bush breathing) and community citizen science walks.”
