GLOBALLY 1.4 million people belong to Rotary and work to embody their mottoes of ‘service above self’ and ‘one profits most who serves best’.
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise modelled that this month as they celebrated 14 local organisations at their annual Giving Breakfast.
Each year the club holds their major fundraiser, ‘The Big Dig’, with monies raised benefiting the area they live in.
This year $41,000 was dispersed to Hastings Education Fund, Make A Difference, headspace Port Macquarie, Liberty Domestic & Family Violence Services, Healthy Harold, Bravehearts, St Thomas Soup Kitchen, YPS MNC, Self Seen, Dignity, St Columba Anglican School, Port Macquarie Youth, Community & Outreach Centre, and Marjorie’s Soup Kitchen.
President Elect 2026-2027 of the club Peter Orford told News Of The Area said that it was extremely important to support the local community and charities that did not necessarily receive funding elsewhere.
“The Giving Breakfast is a very pleasurable experience where we get to hear how the money is spent and the difference that it makes,” he said.
Prominent Mid North Coast men’s mental health movement Self Seen was a grateful recipient of a donation.
“This will help us towards our goal of establishing a new hub at Wauchope,” said Self Seen co-founder Greg Smith. ,.
“I take my hat off to each and every one of these Rotarians who put in all these volunteer hours to raise money and pass it on to grassroots organisations like ours.”
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise was chartered in 1998 and meets at 7am on the second and fourth Friday of the month at Port City Bowling Club. Their next major event is the Christmas in July Santa Saunter.
