NINE probationary constables have commenced duties in the Mid North Coast Police District after new officers attested at a formal ceremony at the Goulburn Police Academy on Friday, 2 May.
Of the new officers beginning their postings, five will be based at Kempsey and four at Port Macquarie.
Member for Oxley Michael Kemp welcomed the new recruits at Kempsey Police Station.
“Having more boots on the ground in Kempsey and Port Macquarie strengthens community safety in a very practical way,” he said.
“It means faster response times, greater visibility, and a stronger police presence where it’s needed most.”
Mr Kemp said it was particularly encouraging that a number of the new officers are locals to the Mid North Coast.
“That local knowledge and connection to community is really valuable and it helps build trust from day one,” he said.
“When officers are out in our towns, engaging with locals and understanding the challenges they face, it leads to better outcomes and stronger relationships between police and the community.”
Class 365 comprised of 302 new probationary constables including 221 men and 81 women.
The recruits have completed eight months of foundational training and those allocated to commands within the Mid North Coast are to complete 12 months’ on-the-job training and study.
