CWA Port Macquarie’s nod to inspirational women

THERE was a buzz in the CWA rooms on Town Square on Friday 6 March, as members marked International Women’s Day with a morning tea for the community.

Members also created a tribute wall for the mothers, grandmothers, friends and colleagues who help shape their work.

“Balance the Scales” was the United Nations Australia theme for International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, highlighting the urgent need to ensure fair, inclusive, and accessible justice for every woman and girl.

Country Women’s Association of NSW President Tanya Jolly, described IWD as an important opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made, while recognising the challenges that still remain in regional and rural communities.

“Through our recent survey of women across NSW, we heard clearly about ongoing concerns around job security, access to health services such as local GPs, safety in the home, sexual violence and the growing shortage of affordable housing,” Ms Jolly said.

“International Women’s Day is a reminder that these issues are not unique to one community or one country.

“Women around the world are still working towards greater safety, opportunity and support.

“The CWA of NSW will be bringing the results of our survey to the attention of the NSW Government and relevant Ministers to ensure the voices and experiences of regional women are heard.”
